As a hip-hop dance teacher myself, I know how difficult it can be to find good, clean music to use in hip-hop classes for kids.
I prefer not to use KidzBop or Disney songs in hip-hop if I can avoid it, mainly because I see this class as an opportunity to introduce young dancers to the genre of hip-hop music!
Here are some artists that have clean hip-hop music that this age group enjoys:
- Black Eyed Peas
- Soulja Boy
- Daft Punk
- Pitbull
- Rihanna
- Backstreet Boys
- Calvin Harris
- Usher
- Todrick Hall
- Outkast
- Justin Timberlake
It took some digging, but I put together a long playlist (with over 100 songs!) for dance teachers to use in hip-hop classes for young dancers, ages 3-5 years old:
Please note that you need to find songs that are not only clean/non-explicit but also don’t mention inappropriate topics (i.e. not talking about gr*nding or other common themes in hip-hop songs).
In other words, just because a song is clean doesn’t mean it is appropriate to use for a kid’s hip-hop dance class.
If you teach older kids, please see these playlists I’ve created in other posts.
