As you’re taking attendance, it’s best to start off class with a short icebreaker question to get kids in the mode listening, sitting on their dot, and taking turns. Sometimes it’s hard to think of questions that are age-appropriate, so I compiled a list for teachers to keep on hand!
- What noise does your favorite animal make?
- Do you have any siblings? If so, how many?
- Do you have any nicknames?
- What do you want to be when you grow up?
- What is your favorite dessert?
- What is your favorite dance move?
- What’s your favorite thing to do outside?
- What is your favorite toy?
- Show me on your hands how old you are
- When you call their name, name a body part and have them point to it
- Do you have any pets?
- If you could have any pet in the world, what would it be?
- What is your favorite animal?
- What is one thing you are thankful for?
- What is your favorite game to play with friends?
- What is your favorite food to eat at home?
- What is your favorite holiday?
- When is your birthday?
- How old will you be on your next birthday?
- If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be?
- If you had a magic wand, what would you wish for?
- What is your favorite song to dance to?
- Where is the farthest place you’ve been to?
