Icebreaker Ideas for 3-5 Year Olds

As you’re taking attendance, it’s best to start off class with a short icebreaker question to get kids in the mode listening, sitting on their dot, and taking turns. Sometimes it’s hard to think of questions that are age-appropriate, so I compiled a list for teachers to keep on hand!

  1. What noise does your favorite animal make?
  2. Do you have any siblings? If so, how many?
  3. Do you have any nicknames?
  4. What do you want to be when you grow up?
  5. What is your favorite dessert?
  6. What is your favorite dance move?
  7. What’s your favorite thing to do outside?
  8. What is your favorite toy?
  9. Show me on your hands how old you are
  10. When you call their name, name a body part and have them point to it
  11. Do you have any pets?
  12. If you could have any pet in the world, what would it be?
  13. What is your favorite animal?
  14. What is one thing you are thankful for?
  15. What is your favorite game to play with friends?
  16. What is your favorite food to eat at home?
  17. What is your favorite holiday?
  18. When is your birthday?
  19. How old will you be on your next birthday?
  20. If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be?
  21. If you had a magic wand, what would you wish for?
